Advice From The Fan Page

My biggest concern is that though there have been cases where mining companies have taken on completely unskilled people in the past, there seems to be many on this page who think by getting their HR or basic riggers ticket will allow them to walk into a mining job, when there are a lot of tradesmen with those tickets and more struggling to find work... Please, don't leave your current jobs until you have definitely snagged a job, because it would be terrible to see anyone become destitute as a. result of going in half cocked!
Well said mate! But your words will fall on deaf ears. As long as I have known every company has all these inexperienced workers running around for them. Yeah I know you have to get experience but be honest about the level experience you have. I've worked with a lot of guys who come onto a job & then realise they don't have the necessary experience which means those of us that have been in the game a while spend all our time babysitting them & keeping them out of harms way. This is a dangerous industry with little room for error. At the end of the day we all want to go home the way we came to work. Don't be responsible for a injury or a death!!!!

I just spent some time in Gladstone (Qld) and the talk is that it will all be kicking off up there again @ the end of January...There is (according to rumour) $30bn worth of projects and they will be needing loads of people for all sorts of roles..Accommodation will be the hardest thing to get as all hotels are solidly booked, housing to rent is around $500-$700 per week so if you know anyone up there and can bunk with them, that'll get you a local address and a start...
